What Causes Acne Acne-Inc

by Charles Boisvert

Although the exact causes of acne are not clear. It is the visible result of a disturbance between hormones, bacteria and inflammation taking place in the oil glands(sebaceous) found in the hair follicle.

As this imbalance advances, the gland becomes overactive and creates a greater amount of oil. The inside of the follicle wall becomes saturated and more sticky. Which builds up and becomes blocked creating comedones(blackheads and whiteheads).

The acne bacteria feeds, grows and multiplies in the oil from the blocked pores. The bacteria then releases chemicals which alerts white cells in the blood. In the bodies attempt to eliminate these chemicals, inflammation is causes. Resulting in papules and pustules(pimples and zits).

The inflamed pores(hair follicle) and the oil gland causes the skin around it to also become inflamed creating nodules(lumps and cysts). The inflammation also harms collagen cells. The cell then becomes imbalanced. If it produces less collagen this create what is called thinning of the skin or depressed scaring. If it produces more collagen, this will thicken the scar.

Exterior factor that aggravate your acne do so in the same way. It is a combined effect of the acne bacteria, hormones(male - testosterone and dihydrotestosterone) and a overactive oil gland blocking pores and creating inflammation. When the pores are blocked at the surface it encourages more oil production creating bacteria and inflammation which lead to pimples or zits.

Hair spray, oil based cosmetics, oils and greases can contribute to blocking the hair follicle at the surface. Sports equipment such as helmets, pads and hats. damp, humide or sweaty clothes that are in contact with your skin for an extended amount of time can also block pores.

Andogenic hormonale medication found in steroids and progestin, found in birth control pills, can increase oil production in the glands which aggravates acne.

Bad eating habits and poor hygiene will not cause acne. This is the most common of acne myths. However, over-washing can cause irritation and worsen your inflammation. Washing twice daily with a salicylic acid(2%) face wash will clear your pores without dehydrating your skin.

Now that you know what causes acne. Are you ready to know how to cure it. Click Here for several proven cures that really work and learn how to clear up your skin.

The Myths and Facts of Teen Acne Exposed!

by Mark Walters

Teen acne is a disease that strikes over 85% of teenagers, yet most people have no idea exactly what causes teen acne. In many cases what most people know about teen acne is really only a number of myths. While the mechanisms of this disease aren't clear, scientists know enough to tell what can and what can't cause it.

Diet (myth and fact)

One of the most common beliefs about teen acne is that it is the result of an improper diet. The truth is that in most cases diet has little or no effect on teen acne. While one of the US studies shows a connection between a high-carbohydrate diet and some forms of acne, it's not a simple cause-effect connection. The disease won't go away just because chocolate is dropped as a snack food.

Exercise (myth)

Too much exercise is also supposed to increase teen acne. At first glance, it seems logical - the disease is connected to oily skin and you sweat a lot during physical exercises. But again, there is no connection between doing exercises and teen acne. It won't get better if we stop running.

Dirt (myth)

Dirt was also pointed out as a cause of acne. As with exercise, at first glance it seems logical. Teen acne is the result of clogging the skin's pores - and dirt certainly can do that! However, washing can't cure teen acne. It won't even help. In most cases the pores are clogged by dead skin cells, not dirt.

Sex (myth)

Another common myth is that sexual activity (or lack of it) can cause acne. While teen acne and the first sexual encounters usually start at about the same time, there is no cause-effect connection between them. They have nothing to do with each other.

Physiological reasons (fact)

The real causes of teen acne are purely physiological. During growing up process male hormones (they exist in both male and female) over-stimulate the oil-producing glands. The oil impedes the rate of dead skin cell shredding. Dead cells are stuck in the pores and they prevent oil from leaving the skin. This creates a perfect place for acne bacteria to grow and multiply. This quickly leads to inflammation and spots. As you see, teen acne comes and goes along with hormone activity during the teen years.

Now you know the facts and myths concerning teen acne.

Popular Home Remedies For Acne Scar Removal THat Can Help Clear Your Skin Up

by Tim Gorman

There are plenty of acne medications available, but not everybody is keen on using synthetic products and ingredients on a regular basis. They are concerned that their skin might be affected. So they like to use a home remedy for acne scar removal.

Home remedies have often been passed down from generation to generation, and incorporate a range of natural products. They improve the texture and tone of the skin, and can help reduce the intensity of acne scars. It's no good being impatient though - they take time to work. Often if takes between 3 and 6 months before you'll notice that the scars are markedly reduced or have even vanished completely. Sometimes a remedy might work perfectly for you, but be totally ineffective on someone else. But don't give up - you can always try another remedy, until you find one that works for you.

One popular remedy for acne scar removal which many people find effective is to apply a mixture of cucumber and tomato juice to your face. Tomatoes are known for their antioxidant qualities, and can help prevent the skin being damaged at the cellular levels. It also helps strengthen the immune system and improve the skin tone. Cucumber and tomato are also both very good at tightening up the pores of your skin.

The first step is to wash your face with lukewarm water, to make sure there are not traces of make up or ointment left on your face. Apply the juices in the form of a mask, and keep it in place for 20 to 30 minutes before you remove it.

Another effective remedy is to make a paste from sandalwood and black gram. Use either milk or rose water as the base for the paste. Apply over the whole face, or just in the affected area, and leave it overnight. Wash your face clean with cool water in the morning. Sandalwood does a great job of reducing skin inflammation and irritation because it has a cooling effect.

Tea tree oil from Australia and Neem paste from India are two other very useful remedies. They both have very good bactericidal properties, and many people have found them very effective in treating scars and also in preventing further infection.

Another way of drawing out the pimple and speeding up the healing process is to use egg whites. Again, these are used as a facemask and left overnight. Wheat germ is another possibility, as it's right in vitamins and has a positive effect on the skin if taken regularly.

If the inflammation is severe and you need quick relief, try using an ice pack. An ice pack can be very effective at reducing swelling and inflammation, and helps to tighten the skin pores.

Acne Medication Potential Side Effects

by Aurel Radulescu

Patients with mild or occasional acne may be able to treat themselves without the use of prescription medication. Such remedies may include an alteration in diet and exercise habits, regular cleansing to remove residue and buildup on the skin, choosing the right cosmetics and eliminating stress. But for some individuals, this simply isnt enough. For those who suffer from moderate to severe acne, a stronger medication may be needed in order for that individual to find relief from their condition.

There are several different types of medication that are commonly used to treat acne, each of which may contain the potential for certain side effects. As is the case with most over-the-counter acne medication, prescription medicines are usually available as gels, creams, lotions or solutions. In determining which is the best choice for the patient, a physician will study the skin type, severity of acne and the patients likelihood of having a negative reaction to any medication. Once a prescription is written, the physician will explain how often to use the medicine and how to properly apply it to the skin.

As mentioned previously, it is not uncommon for individuals to have a reaction to strong acne medication. For some it is only temporary, but others may require a change in their prescription. The most widely seen reaction is that of the skins condition actually worsening. Many physicians agree that most medications will cause the skin to worsen before it actually improves, which may take 6-8 weeks of using a medication. However, additional side effects may include extreme redness, burning, stinging, peeling, soreness, scaling or a discoloration of the skin. If individuals notice these side effects becoming increasingly worse or if they do not go away after a specified period of use, which should be indicated by a physician, the medication may need to be changed.

Individuals who take oral medications for the treatment of acne may face an entirely different set of potential side effects, including an upset stomach, dizziness and skin discoloration. Certain types of medication can be dangerous to women who are pregnant or children under a certain age, so individuals should report any possible conditions to their physician prior to accepting a prescription.

As with any medication, there are often risks and benefits of its use. The best way to learn of these is to speak with a physician, ask about any potential side effects and completely disclose your current medical condition and any medications that you are currently taking. In some instances, medications may negatively react with one another and this can be very dangerous to the patient. Acne medicine is no different and the patient should have a complete understanding of how it operates before using it.

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for the cause, diagnosis or treatment of acne. If necessary, individuals should consult a medical doctor or dermatologist for information regarding the use of acne medication or other effective treatment methods.

Home Mask Treatments for Acne

by Jason Rickard

Theres a long list of beauty products that you can readily purchase to prevent and treat acne. There are cleansers, astringents, medicated soaps and creams among others. You can also try facial masks to help you with your acne problem.

Facemask acts as a cleansing agent. It also promotes the firmness and natural balance of your facial skin. You can always buy ready-to-use facial masks in the market, but if you are a fan of natural treatments, then you can make one for yourself. Fighting acne the natural way is starting to gain popularity because of its effectiveness and it costs a lot less than synthetic products. By making one yourself, it makes you aware of the stuff that you put in your face. Homemade acne masks are very easy to use and can be done in a matter of minutes.

Garlic Mask:

Although garlic has a strong odor, it is very effective in removing acne. Garlic is a very good cleanser and has antibiotic properties. Be sure not to apply too much garlic on your face as it can cause slight skin burns and reddening. There are some people who are allergic to garlic so be sure you are not one of them. To make the mask, mash about eight cloves of raw garlic and apply to the face. Leave the mask for about 15 mins. Remove the mask with a warm cloth and rinse it off with a vinegar PH balancer.

Bran and Baking Soda Mask:

Bran is the outer layer of wheat or cereal grains. Most people would add in bran to smoothies to prevent acne. Alternatively, you can also use bran as acne masks. Add in bran to a mixture of baking soda and water paste. Baking soda can be used as a scrub and as an exfoliator. Apply the mask to your face and gently massage your face for 10-15 seconds. Rinse thoroughly and pat-dry your face with a soft towel.

Lime Juice Mask

Add in an equal amount of limejuice and groundnut oil and apply all over the face. This facial mask is not only used as an acne treatment but can also help in preventing pimples and blackheads. Although theres a presence of groundnut oil in the mixture, you need not worry because the limejuice would turn the oil into amino acids and your skin would not absorb the oil at all.

Effective Acne Treatment Options

by Michael Moody

Acne is a troublesome and bothersome condition that affects people of all ages. Yes, I said people of all ages, because a common myth about acne is that it targets youngsters that are going through puberty. While acne is most commonly associated with teenagers, it does not discriminate by age, race or gender when it comes to attacking the skin. Acne occurs when bacteria grows and multiplies in the hair follicles and clogged pores.

Recently, when people begin thinking about effective acne treatments, they automatically think of prescription acne treatment options such as Accutane. However, there are several non-prescription acne treatments that can help acne sufferers

One of the most frequently used non-prescription acne treatment is Benzoyl Peroxide. This acne treatment may come in different forms such as cleansing bars, creams, gels, lotions or facial masks. They come under a variety of trade names, but all work similarly.

Advantages of Benzoyl Peroxide

This form of acne treatment is typically good for those who suffer from mild acne. It works to kill the pimple causing bacteria and comes in several different strengths from 2.5 % to 10%. It is important to know that while most of these are non-prescription applications, sometimes they can be prescribed by a dermatologist (generally the 10% strength).

Disadvantages of Benzoyl Peroxide

At first, your skin could become irritated by the acne treatment, especially in the initial three weeks. It may look like your acne worsens during this time as well. While using benzoyl peroxide, you should avoid usage of other topical products that use a peeling agent, permanents or hair removal agents, any products for the skin that contains spices or lime, astringents, after shave lotion or shaving creams.

Another effective non-prescription acne treatment is Beta Hydroxy Acids. These are a salicylic acid and as such they work mainly as an exfoliant. For the most part, this is a process that causes cells of the skin to become unglued, thus allowing the dead skin to be sloughed off, making room fro regrowth on new cells. In addition to being a good acne treatment, Beta Hydroxy Acids are gaining popularity as a wrinkle remover.

Advantages of Beta Hydroxy Acids

This type of acne treatment works to remove and unclog the pores of dead skin cells and promote new growth. Beta Hydroxy uses salicylic acid, which loosens clogged pores in the skin and helps in the prevention of acne. They effectively work against blackhead and whiteheads and can be found in the forms of cleansers, lotions and astringents.

Disadvantages of Beta Hydroxy Acids

This form of acne treatment will increase a persons sensitivity to the sun by up to 50% and requires high levels of sun protection when the user goes outdoors. It could also cause some skin irritation and result in burning, redness, itching, scarring or pain. For those who have a darker skin color, you are at a higher risk of scarring that result in changes in the pigment of the skin.

As always, an informed consumer can usually make the best buying decisions. Hopefully this article has helped provide some basic information and added to your overall quest for knowledge on the subject of effective acne treatments.

What a Bang Up Move to Cure Acne!

by Terry Price

Do you remember when you were a teenager standing in front of the mirror and staring at the huge zit on your face? I'm sure you can remember the self-conscious feeling and wondering how your acne got there. You probably also remember wondering how were you going to get it off of your face before somebody actually sees it! If you have a teenager that is experiencing acne, you are going to have to show some sympathy the next time they ask for five bucks to go get another bottle of acne medication, cream or face wash. The unfortunate part about acne is no one really knows what causes it, although scientists think a hormone called androgen plays a significant role. Androgen acts as a stimulant to the sebum-producing glands. Shortly after puberty, boys produce 10 times as much androgen as girls. It is for this main reason that boys usually have more severe acne and need a good acne treatment.

Eighty five percent of the US population between the ages of 12 and 25 develop some type of acne. For boys, acne starts around the age of 13 and girls, age 11. Although there is no documented scientific evidence that junk food or greasy foods cause acne, it doesn't hurt to keep an eye on your teen after they eat these foods to see if their acne is affected. Once acne is detected, most use a good acne medication or at least develop better personal hygiene habits to help combat its spread.

There is also no direct evidence that oily skin or hair causes acne but if your teen is experiencing more pimples or blackheads under their bangs, it may be a good idea to change their hairstyle. Also, approximately 70% of all women notice their acne worsens the week before their period begins. Stress also seems to be a factor in acne breakouts, but there is no scientific evidence to back this up. Finding the best acne treatments and having perseverance with good personal hygiene is the best way to combat teenage acne.

There's Nothing Like Natural Help for Acne

by Matt OConnor

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of pharmaceutical companies that want you to believe that their products are the absolute most effective way of dealing with acne, and that you will not find anything better anywhere. Problem is, if youre anything like me, you take everyones claims worth a grain of salt, especially when that person is trying to sell you something. More and more people will attest that the natural route is the way to go, though if you are an acne sufferer than you also probably already know that there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of natural or alternative treatments being sold in stores and online. And since they are selling products, too, who should you believe? If you are looking for a natural acne treatment, the problem with many web sites is that every one will be stuffed with users claiming how well everything works. Every acne sufferer is different, but there are some things for you to consider when looking for a natural treatment.

The earliest Greek doctors firmly believed in food and drink being the best medicine. This is something to still keep in mind, and in fact, much of Eastern medicine is still based around this philosophy. Drink a lot of water. There is very little that helps virtually every condition the way that water helps keep the human body healthy. Eat fruits and vegetables (many claim that organic is best when it is feasible) and though no specific vitamin has been proven to help fight acne (though many will still make that claim) vitamin supplements can help to keep your body healthy in general, which is the best way of dealing with acne. Anything that is normally could for healthy skin is a pretty good idea to help keep acne away.

One of the most popular methods for helping fight acne from Eastern medicine is green tea. Now one thing to keep in mind about Eastern medicine is that they take a holistic approach, meaning that no one thing is meant to treat your problem. In fact, if you wanted to make green tea your main way of fighting acne, then you would need to drink an average of eight glasses a day. This is possible, though probably very inconvenient. Green tea is best used as a supplement to other methods, which is not to discount it. Many people who have successfully treated acne actually owe their success to a series of treatments working together. The benefit to green tea is that it is naturally loaded with antioxidants, and since it is natural, your body can actually process the benefits far easier than with vitamin capsules. Green tea loses its effectiveness if you add sugar and other preservatives. It needs to be drank as is.

Keeping with the natural, getting a decent amount of sunlight each day tends to help. This doesnt mean sunbathe: there are still risks of skin cancer and burning your skin will not help your acne problem, but getting a couple hours of direct sunlight each day tends to help the body fight off the hormonal imbalances that cause acne. More study into this has resulted on creating red and blue UV lights that supposedly has drastically helped multiple individuals with serious acne. This light therapy treatment can be done easily in the comfort of your own home with a laser that safely emits the required light rays, and lab tests have shown this to be effective.

Natural facial peels are also a highly recommended way of treating acne, and soothe and treat the skin, anyway, which makes it a good idea regardless of whether or not you are trying to treat acne.

There are many different natural options, and if the pharmaceutical route has failed you, give a few a try, and remember patience. There is no cure for acne, only treatments, and all treatments take time. Keep this in mind, and eventually you will find the one that works for you.

Acne Tips That Will Help Improve Your Complexion

by Richard Davies

Clear healthy skin is something associated with also being in a good state of health, with a public perception of beauty. As we are all human, from time to time we get spots seemingly appearing out of the blue, even if we follow a good diet regime and look after our skin. Despite being susceptible to the aforementioned, there are certain things we can do to further improve our appearance and complextion.

Firstly make sure you are following a balanced, healthy diet with an emphasis on nutritious foods and generous portions of fruits and vegetables. Nutrition plays a vital role in having healthy clear skin.

Did you know that your skin is the last of the organs in your body to receive vital nutrients. Prior to your skin receiving them, your other vital organs take what they need. So, as you can see, it's important to intake a good dose of nutrients on a regulr basis to feed your skin from the inside out. If your diet isn't right, your skin will suffer , and along with it your acne condition will also worsen.

Another dietary danger zone is what many of us are addicted to on a daily basis. Yes, you guessed it. It's caffeine. But caffeine is pretty harmless, right? Wrong. If you cut down your overall caffeine intake you have an improved chance of improved skin appearance and less severe acne. Caffeine produces a hormone called cortisol that really causes problems with your skin if you become overloaded with it and your body can't cope.

Another top acne tip is to ensure your diet has a good supply of essential fatty aciss. Your body then utilises this to produce something called linoleic acid which is good for your skin as well as having other health giving properties.

Other ways of reducing the regularity and severity of acne breakouts, other than diet, is to make sure your towels are regularly changed so there is less chance of bacteria on the one you are using. Changing your bed and pillow covers regularly will also be of benefit.

Adult Acne And Treatment

Reducing Your Acne Problems

by Michael Russell

You look in the mirror and you are frustrated to see that your worst problem refuses to go away. Acne! If you are battling with the dreaded acne, you are not alone. Chances are you are among the 80% of people of all races that suffer from this condition.

Acne is the term used to refer to skin disorders characterized by persistent and recurring reddish blemishes on the face and other parts of the body including the neck, shoulders, chest, upper back and/or buttocks.

Acne is commonly manifested in these areas due to the predominance of sebaceous (or oil producing) glands in these areas. These glands are responsible for producing sebum, the natural lubricant of the skin and hair. Sebum is normally drawn off onto the skin surface through the pores. When the pores are blocked by excess oil or hair, sebum accumulates under the skin causing a "plug". This allows pimple-causing bacteria to thrive in the plugged pores resulting in inflammation and acne.

The term "acne" may also be used to refer to whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. Whiteheads develop when a pore becomes clogged, stays just beneath the skin and bulges out forming a white bump. A blackhead, on the other hand, results when a clogged pore remains open and forms a dark center due to the exposure of sebum in the air. Pimples are formed when infected whiteheads rupture. This infection makes the skin look red.

Although acne may not be a serious health condition, its existence may cause significant emotional concern to acne sufferers.

For a very long period of time, acne had been blamed to a variety of things, from eating chocolates and greasy foods to dirty skin to stress. However, there is still insufficient evidence on the relationship between acne and these factors.

Although the exact cause of acne is still unknown, its incidence can be attributed to many factors. Among these are:

Hormonal changes. Acne is most prevalent during puberty. This can be attributed to the increase in the male sex hormones called androgen in both boys and girls. This hormonal imbalance causes the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum. Some adolescent girls and women may also experience acne outbreaks before their menstrual periods. Pregnancy also causes hormonal changes, which may explain why pregnant women are susceptible to acne outbreaks. Starting or stopping birth control pills may likewise cause acne.

Heredity or genetics. Research proves that heredity plays an important role in determining the tendency to develop acne. If one parent suffers from acne, it is possible that he or she may pass the condition to his children.

Bacteria. Certain bacteria have the tendency to infect oil glands and skin pores.

Drugs. Certain drugs, including lithium and androgen are also known to cause acne.

There are many ways to treat an acne problem. There are over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription drugs used to counter the problem. Medications are available in various preparations. There are topical (applied to the skin) and oral (taken by mouth) preparations for treating mild to severe cases of acne.

To reduce acne problem, several precautionary measures should be observed.

Do not squeeze, pick, scratch or rub your skin. Putting undue pressure forces oil and bacteria deeper in the skin making matters worse. It may even cause scarring.

Wash your face twice a day using a mild soap and rinse well with water. Stay clear from granular facial scrubs. Exfoliating irritates the skin and produces more dead cells which clogs the pores and may further aggravate the condition.

Change your wash cloth every day. Damp cloth is a haven for acne-causing bacteria.

Avoid touching your face unnecessarily.

Shampoo hair regularly and try to keep your hair away from your face.

Exercise regularly and minimize stress levels. Stress aggravates acne conditions.

Oil from certain skin products may clog the pores so it is advisable to wear make up on special occasions only and remove it completely afterwards. It is best to use hypoallergenic and/or fragrance-free products.

.Avoid being sunburned. Certain acne medications make the skin prone to sunburn. Avoid this at all costs even if tones the skin and makes the blemishes less visible. Excessive exposure to the sun may hasten skin aging and may even cause skin cancer.

Remember, however, that for proper treatment of persistent and uncontrollable acne, it is best to be safe. Consult a dermatologist!

Busting Acne Myths Requires Individualized Treatment and More Research

by Naweko San-Joyz

If you have acne, you know the deal- everybody has a cream or suggestion to help you get clear skin. But how do you separate myth, medicine and folklore to find an acne treatment that works for you? Thats what researcher Parker Magin set out to do in a study entitled, A systematic review of the evidence for myths and misconceptions in acne management.

Magin and co-researchers from the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, conclude that clinicians cannot be didactic when making acne treatment recommendations that are based on diet, hygiene and sunlight exposure. According to Magin, acne treatments should be individualized.

Meanwhile, the Academy of Dermatology has published a press release touting, The Stubborn Truth About Acne: Myths and Misconceptions. Though this article discusses a recent Stanford University survey that examined acne myths held among young adults, it offers no solid advice for securing an acne antidote. Moreover, its meaning is paradoxical.

For example, the article headlines Alexa Boer Kimball, M.D. who is an assistant professor of dermatology at Harvard University. Dr. Kimballs sums up the survey on acne by saying that substantial differences still exist between popular belief and scientific support, yet this does not change the way patients attempt to care for their acne.

Dr. Kimballss comments at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology casts a discrediting shadow over her groundbreaking research that aimed to separate acne fact from fiction. Just two years ago in 2003, Dr. Kimball was apart of a Stanford University study investigating the effect of stress on acne. Then, Dr. Kimball concluded that, increased acne severity was significantly associated with increased stress levels while self-assessed change in diet quality was the only other significant association. The results of this study suggested that the link between acne, and diet and stress are no longer hypothetical but warrant further examination.

Another investigation aiming to demystify acne came for Dr. Loren Cordain. Cordain and his associates explored the link between diet and acne in a study called Acne Vulgaris: A Disease of Western Civilization. Cordain noted that Kitavan Islanders of Papua New Guinea and the Ach hunter-gatherers of Paraguay had no active cases of acne. This prompted the question, So why does acne vulgaris affect 79% to 95% of the adolescent population in westernized societies?

Cordain found that genes alone do not cause the disparity of acne incidences between non-westernized and modernized societies. Other factors must enter the equation.

Acne can arise from hormonal shifts, stress upheavals and a host of other causes. Your best defense against acne is observing yourself and noting what conditions, foods and emotions aggravate your acne situation. From there, you can use self-care to reduce acne flare-ups.

Is Pimple Popping Dangerous & Will It Really Make Your Acne Worse?

by Naweko San-Joyz

You may have heard it as a never-ending cleanliness sermon from your mom, Dont pop your pimples, youll only make your acne worseBlah, blah, blah Thats why your skin looks awful now. Stop that! But really, will popping zits make your acne worse or is it just another acne myth?

At the 63rd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, dermatologist Alexa Boer Kimball, MD, decided to place pimple popping into the skin malarkey category, as scientifically unfounded acne aggravator.

Yet still with this categorizing, the question remains, Does zit popping make acne worse and what evidence is there to prove it?

The Real Issue: Why People Pop Zits in the First Place

To solve this issue, first, you need to know why you pop zits. The clear-cut answer is because zits are ugly and make you feel ugly and depressed.

Research supports this finding. For instance, a study published in the 2006 edition of the Journal of the American of Dermatology found that out of 387 dermatology patients who completed the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, 37 patients (9.6%) suffered from major depression.

Similarly, in 2000, a report in the same journal found that of 268 dermatology patients, 11.9% suffered from body dysmophic disorder (BBD), that is, they had a preoccupation with feeling ugly or having a nonexistent flaw in their appearance.

Another study published in Dermatologic Surgery in the June 2004 that examined facial scarring that resulted from acne excorie concluded facial scarring could be controlled by first removing the underlining psychological disorders to control the impulse for desire to squeeze pimples.

Collectively, this data tells us that people pop zits because pimples the make them feel ugly and in order to stop bursting zits, you need to control the impulse to correct a bodily flaw.

This can be done by reminding yourself that your zit does not look as big to everyone else as it looks to you. Here lies the crux of the problem. Never let a zit make you feel like the village freak.

Even if that self-esteem booster does not work and you go ahead and pop the zit, will it make your acne worse? At first glance, that zit you targeted embodies a number of traits including compromised skin shedding, blockage of the pores and inflammation.

What Matters to Your Skin Is What Happens After You Pop the Zit

Given these circumstances, what will happen after you pop the zit? Well, you will create a mess and after that your skin will need to start the repair process.

Wounds heal in a series of steps. The bleeding must stop, inflammation starts to disinfect the area, this inflammation causes more cells will grow to replace the damaged ones and the finally then skin will begin to renew itself.

The Acne-Triggering Chain Reaction

So, when you squeeze a zit, you immediately trigger more of the traits of acne, which include inflammation. No only this but squeezing affects multiple pores located next to you target pimple to pop.

This leads us to another cause of acne- premature breaking of a pore that is congested with excess oils and proteins. Busting such a pore promotes the inflammation response to remove the oils and proteins from surrounding tissues.

There Is a Time to Squeeze and a Time Not to Squeeze

Long answer short, pimple popping can aggravate acne because your skin contains a community of pores and what you do to one pimply-puss infested pore will affect the neighboring pore. The key is to time the popping of your zit right. Not all pimples are ideal for popping. Pop-ready zits are puss filled and above the surface of the skin. Such pimples are easily extracted with a sterile needle.

Acne-inducing pimple squeezing happens when you attempt to pop a pimple that is still beneath the surface of the skin and bordered by healthy, non-infected pores. Such pimples need time to rise to the upper layers of the skin and in some instances, may require medical extraction.

So, listen to Mom and please do not pop your pimples prematurely. Nevertheless, if pimple popping is an uncontrollable problem for you, a report published in Dermatologic Therapy found that hypnosis does help control the impulsive behaviors that can lead to pimple popping. The next time you are gazing into the mirror and that zits looks grossly humongous, but truly should not get squeezed, remove your hands from your face and just repeat after me, I will let my zit to heal, I will let my zit heal, I will let my zit heal Good luck.

Acne and Acne Scarring- The One Treatment That Will Bring You Relief

by James Hegarty

Most acne suffers find that the scars left by acne is usually worse than acne itself. The scars are usually harder to deal with than the acne itself and will usually remain long after the acne is treated and gone.

Unlike acne, acne scars are skin deep. These scars may appear on the surface but actually they well up from deep within the skin. For individuals unfortunate enough to be afflicted with acne and even more unfortunate to find the remains of the acne they suffered in the form of the acne scars, acne laser treatment is the best solution as it produces excellent results.

At first glance the cost can seem large but when really considered it might not be as expensive at it looks. This is because when the cost of all the acne products that is bought but dont produce permanent results like the one time from acne laser treatment then it becomes more cost effective.

Unlike expensive creams and lotions that do not produce long term results, only minimum results over a long time, acne scar laser treatment is not only faster as you start to see the results immediately, but it is much more effective as it is a one time treatment.

The really good thing about acne scar laser treatment is that it works two fold. First the bacteria that cause acne are treated with the laser and the glands that produce the oil that leads to acne, the sebaceous glands are then shrunk which helps prevent any further outbreaks, ensuring a healthy looking skin.

After the process is completed it will diminish completely the scar like appearances of acne and can be over with after only one session.

On the other hand those with really bad scarring will notice the greatly reduced appearance of acne scarring after the first treatment and after a few more sessions will eliminate the appearance of acne scarring. All of which will be explained by the staff carrying out the treatment who will also let the individual for the treatment know if they are physically eligible.

It is an advantage that the treatment lasts only between fifteen minutes and at most an hour while producing no side effects. To find a permanent solution for acne scaring, acne scar laser treatment is still the best, the most efficient and most effective treatment available.

You can get much more effective relief from acne scarring using new forms of acne scarring treatments like acne laser treatment.

How Can I Treat Back Acne No Back-breaking Trouble Over It

by Robert Sheehan

Painfully shy about your pimply back? Feeling ashamed of wearing the bikini on your next beach holiday? Wondering, albeit dejectedly, how can I treat back acne? dont fret. The remedies for back acne are now right at your fingertips. And they couldnt have been any easier.

Tips to Cure Back Acne

Back acne is a common enough problem for the legions of acne sufferers around the world. Pimples on the back can be due to sundry reasons: an over-oily skin, tight-fitting clothes or garments that cling on to the skin and dont let the sweat escape. Whatever be the reason, back acne is definitely very painful and a few tips on how to control and cure back acne will surely be welcomed.

Before actually going on the medication for back acne, there are a few lifestyle practices that you can follow to get rid of your back pimples. Firstly, steer well clear of tight fitting dresses, no matter how macho or appealing you look in it. This holds true for cotton clothes too.

This may come as a surprise for all those vehement supporters of cotton for comfort. But the truth of the matter is that cotton clothes dont let the sweat escape and with the sweat sticking on to you, your back acne problem is aggravated. In this case, synthetic garments are the ideal option.

When you are having back acne troubles, it is imperative that you keep your back clean at all times. Dirt and grime can worsen acne conditions. But there are precautions to be followed when you are washing your back.

Remember your goal is to have a clear skin, not to scrub your back so vigorously so as to have it scarred and pitted beyond cure. While bathing, use a loofah sponge or any coarse scrubbing material to scour your back clean of all the dead cells.

You can also use a 2% salicylic acid cleanser in your bath ritual and follow it up with a dab of any noncomedogenic body lotion. You can apply a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment on the back marks. You can expect positive results within four weeks, otherwise, you can consult a dermatologist.

Dermatologists swear by dietary supplements like Acidophilus twice or thrice a day, brewers yeast, chromium, zinc, Vitamins A, B-complex, B6, B-5, C and E and selenium to cure back acne problems.

The remedys for your back acne woes are easy to follow. In fact, if you show diligence in this treatment regime, you can expect to bid good riddance to bad back acne.
